Social Park started out as a house with a field behind it. Our vision was to create a space for wildlife, particularly birds, to enjoy. Working with the county soil and water conservation program we planted over a thousand trees. Chickens were added to teach our boys responsibility and introduced us to hobby farm life. Over the years our family has experimented with pigeons, geese, turkeys, rabbits, Jacob sheep and alpacas. Our boys enjoyed showing the variety of animals at the county fair. Recently we settled on our favorites and currently have chickens, ducks, Jacob sheep and rabbits. Our two German shepherds help keep the wild critters under control and are treated as members of the family. The sheep are rotated through 8 pastures on our property and 5 of our neighbors. The flock ranges from 15 to 30 sheep. Our focus with the sheep is to breed for fleece quality and maintain a 4 horned flock. We cater to create fleece with lots of crimp for hand crafters to enjoy. The Jacob sheep fleece is black and white allowing creativity with natural color. Each year the flock produces 8 to 13 lambs and the hardiness of the breed requires no assistance with lambing. The flock eats grass, clover and other treats found in the pastures during the spring, summer and fall. Over winter they eat hay with supplementing of grains during lambing. Come visit us when you can and leave when you have to.
